W.C. NOISE

W.C. Noise appeared in March 1990 in Porto. In that time the group was constituted by Berto bass, Miguel drums, Rodolfo guitar and Paulo guitar. After several months of rehearsals Berto leaves the band for personal reasons and Paulo goes to the place of bass player. Nando joins the band as a singer. With this line up the band plays their 1st gig, invited by Hardness, at the Associação dos Restauradores do Bráz-Oleiro, Porto, September 1st 1990. After the concert Miguel leaves because of the obligatory military service, and Pedro replaces him. The band records a seven track demo tape "What a Cool Noise" in the beginning of December 1990, in only two days. But the quality was so bad that they decided to retire the demo from the market, shortly after putting it on sale. In New Year's Eve of 1990/91, W.C. Noise gives their 2nd concert, in Sra da Hora, again with Hardness, Genocide and Operação Contágio. The group performed a series of live dates: June 10th 1991 at Cairo Disco, with Overhead and Dove, with Overhead again in Ramada Alta, Porto, November 9th 1991 in Amora, Seixal, with Procyon and again in Ramada Alta with Thormenthor. The band enters the Rec`n`Roll Studios in February 15th and 16th 1992, with producer Luís Barros (Tarantula) they recorded their 2nd demo tape, titled "You´d Better Shut Up", containing the tracks "Emptiness", "Y.B.S.U.", "Diarrhea", "My Life" and "Nuclear Poo". On April 17th 1992 the band played with Ramp and Censurados at the Pavilhão Infante Sagres, Porto. The group signes with independent label MTM and released the album "Loud & Mad". The record was recorded during September and October 1992 at the Rec`n`Roll Studios with producer Luís Barros (Tarantula). The album is released on December 7th, with a released party held at Johnny Guitar, Lisbon. The "Loud & Mad Tour" begins and in December 10th they played at Cais 4-47, Porto. On May 1st 1993 the group played at the 2nd Heavy Metal Festival, Penafiel, and in August 8th in Portimão. With a new bass player, Vítor (ex-Overhead) and their record beeing licensed in Spain by spanish label Treboada, the band played a 10 date mini-tour in Spain, between September 22th and October 2nd, headlining almost all dates, some opening for bands like Legion or Beermosh. In 1994 their 1st CD is released, "Reality Asylum". The band began gigging around the country and touring Europe, some dates opening for the late Paul Di Anno's band Killers (ex-Iron Maiden). "Reality Asylum" was re-released in 1996, with a different cover, through two German lebels, Milestone Music and Rawk Records.

MORTIFERA

Mortífera were a female fronted Thrash/ Speed Metal band. Formed in Amadora, Lisbon in early 1987 when Filipe Gonçalves drums invites Ricardo bass and Nan-Jô guitars. In September 87, Filipe receives an invitation from one of the most rounds bands back then, STS Paranoid. Filipe accepted the invitation and Mortífera is on standby. With the end of STS Paranoid in November 1987, Filipe calls the two former members but now with the addition of a female vocalist, Lena on April 1988 and in October a 2nd guitarrist, Rui. In January 1989 Nan-Jô leaves the band and Miguel replaces him. The band plays their first gig on April 23rd 1989 at the Parque Central in Amadora and their 2nd gig on the same month, 29th in Almornos, Sintra, with Procyon and Massacre (replaced Braindead). Mortífera recorded a 2 track demo tape ("Deadly Fields" and "Death Train (instrumental)") on their rehearsal/ basement with a multitrack recorder, but as the result was not the best and also for monetary reasons, the demo turned out not to go ahead. In May 13th they played in Silvares, Fundão. On July 22th the group played live again, in Massamá, with Massacre and Necrophiliac. After the concert in Massamá started a certain instability between the two guitarrists and the rest of the group. Both Miguel and Rui speak to leave the band five days before the last concert, that held in Fogueteiro, September 16th 1989 with The Coven, N.A.M. and Ramp. The group splits and Filipe joins V12 and Ricardo joins Ramp.

EXILED

Exiled began when Nuno Loureiro left Merciless Death, around 1991. He started the band on his own and, with the help of his parents, invested in a drum kit and some recording equipment. That's how he recorded Exiled`s first demos, which were never released. In the meantime, he invited Fernando Dantas to play drums. Someone told Nuno that he played drums, but in reality he only had a pair of drumsticks. They ended up experimenting and the result was the recording of the first demo at the rehearsal room. The songs “You're Dead” and “The Judgement” were released in 1992, with Samuel Rebelo bass and Luis Amaro guitar. Later that year, on June 27th, they played at the Centro Popular Recreativo de Campolide in Lisbon, opening for Italians Sadist. Only with Nuno, Dantas and Luis,  a 2nd demo tape was released, containing the songs “You're Dead”, “Again”, “Anarchy (Sex Pistols cover)”, “Human Boundaries”, “Coroner's Bless” and “Screams”. Recorded in the band´s rehearsal studio and mixed at Edit studios. In the summer of 1993, Luis Amaro was replaced by Antonio Gião (who was already playing in Disaffected) when the songs that would become their first full-length were already written, with only a few bass parts missing. Producer Zé Motor was introduced to the band, at the time working with Shrine on their first album. They entered one of the best studios in Portugal, Tcha Tcha Tcha, and with the best conditions recorded “Ascension Of Grace” in December 1993. Tó Nunes guitar, joins the band. In the meantime, on March 11 they'll play in Sobralinho, along with Sarcastic Angel, Exomortis and Imunity, among others. The Portuguese label Slime Records wanted to release the record. They were good friends of Nuno's from school days.

They released the album, but nobody intheir midst cared, since it was a punk/hardcore label. It was difficult to find a copy because it wasn't on sale anywhere. The band had ideas of going to the next level, but quickly realized that it wouldn't work. There was no promotion from Slime. The launch concert for “Ascencion Of Grace” took place at the Europa nightclub in Lisbon on July 11th 1994, this was followed by another presentation a few days later, on the 17th, at the Gar Bar, sharing the stage with Shrine, Decayed, Disaffected and Sacred Sin. On the 26th of the same month, to a packed venue, the Rock Line, in Lisbon. There was also an autograph session that night. They opened for Belgians Ancient Rites at the old Bar Lusitano in Lisbon's Cais do Sodré that same year 1994. The band lasted until 1996, when Nuno decided to end the Exiled phase. They even changed their name to Sublevel, but it was so different from Exiled that it ended right there.
